NORWAY. The Norwegian Defense Material Agency (NDMA) has signed an agreement with the Netherlands Defense Material Organization (DMO) for the acquisition of five Thales Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact radars (GM200 MM/C). The agreement also includes an option for three additional systems.

According to the company, Thales offers time-on-target solutions from the Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission family – radars that are able to detect smaller, faster, more agile targets at longer ranges, while retaining high tactical mobility and a short deployment time.

This first ever government-to-government contract between the countries will aim to provide the Norwegian and Netherlands Armed Forces with a common radar platform for further collaboration in the areas of threat assessment. According to officials, both parties will benefit from the latest in software-defined radar technology in hopes of enabling future upgrades and capability expansion to manage evolving future threats.

Designed with new-generation 4D Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology and a dual-axis multi-beam, the radar automatically detects, tracks, and classifies multiple aerial threats and is particularly suited to weapon locating, air surveillance and air defense.
