Raytheon wins long-range radar contract

CHESAPEAKE, Va. Raytheon will conduct operations and maintenance for the U.S. Navy's Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Relocatable Over-the-Horizon Radar (ROTHR) program under a contract valued up to an estimated $104 million.
Our team will work with the U.S. Navy's Forces Surveillance Support Center and the Joint Interagency Task Force South, tracking illegal activities, says Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS).
The new contract covers operations and maintenance at ROTHR's six locations in Puerto Rico, Texas, and Virginia.
ROTHR is used in narco-terrorism operations. It is a long-range surveillance radar that provides 2.5 million square miles of coverage and was originally designed for long-range detection and tracking of aircraft and ships.
Raytheon will provide support to ROTHR, collecting detection and tracking data for operational commanders, says Todd Probert, vice president of Mission Support and Modernization at Raytheon IIS.
