Triton UAS sale to Australia reported by U.S. Navy

NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, Patuxent River, Md. The U.S. Navy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Australian government to purchase as many as six MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft systems (UASs).

The MOU outlines the cooperative agreement between the U.S. and Australian defense departments; under the terms of the agreement, Australia will be able to influence future design and development of the program.

The U.S. Navy reports that the Royal Australian Air Force will operate Triton alongside the P-8A Poseidon aircraft in a bid to boost support to maritime patrol and other surveillance roles.
