PETAH TIKVA, Israel. Gilat Satellite Networks demonstrated an artificial intelligence (AI)-based signal-processing technology designed to detect and cancel interference affecting satellite communications links, the company announced in a statement.

The patent-pending system is designed to operate on neural processing unit (NPU) hardware at the network edge and was tested against multiple non-cooperative and changing interference scenarios, the statement reads.

According to Gilat, preliminary results showed as much as a tenfold improvement in interference detection and cancellation compared with conventional mitigation techniques. The company says the desired communications signal experienced limited degradation after the interfering signals were removed.

The technology is intended for satellite links operating in spectrum environments affected by interference or jamming, including government and defense applications, the statement adds.

Gilat plans to conduct additional demonstrations using dedicated AI accelerator hardware. The company says the goal is to develop a lower-power edge implementation that could be incorporated into operational satellite communications terminals.
