XM30 combat vehicle prototype delivered to U.S. Army for testing

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan. American Rheinmetall delivered the first of eight Lynx XM30 combat vehicle prototypes to the U.S. Army under a Phase 3/4 Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract valued at about $764 million, the company announced in a statement.
The prototype will undergo government developmental and performance testing as the Army evaluates candidates to replace the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle, the statement reads. Rheinmetall plans to deliver the remaining seven prototypes later this year for soldier training and operational exercises under the Army’s Transformation in Contact 2.0 initiative.
The XM30 incorporates a modular design, open architecture, hybrid-electric powertrain, and digital connectivity intended to support integration of new technologies over the vehicle’s service life, the company says. Production involves turret fabrication in Michigan and hull and chassis integration in Louisiana, followed by vehicle testing and inspection with the Defense Contract Management Agency before government acceptance.
