Electronic warfare system selected for Peru's F-16 fleet

CLIFTON, New Jersey. L3Harris Technologies was selected by the government of Peru to provide its Viper Shield electronic warfare (EW) system for the country's F-16 Block 70 aircraft program, the company announced in a statement.
Viper Shield is designed to detect and counter radar, missile, and other electronic threats while providing both offensive and defensive EW functions, the statement reads. Peru will join other F-16 Block 70 operators using the system, which L3Harris says is intended to support interoperability among allied fleets.
L3Harris developed Viper Shield with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force, according to the statement. The system can be integrated into Block 70/72 aircraft, installed as a retrofit on earlier F-16 variants, or carried in an external pod, and its software-defined architecture is designed to support future capability updates, the company says.
