MQ-4C Triton surveillance aircraft supports Australian maritime operations

CANBERRA, Australia. Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Navy, and the Royal Australian Air Force are working to integrate the MQ-4C Triton autonomous surveillance aircraft into Australian maritime operations, the company announced in a statement.
The aircraft is intended to support surveillance across Australia’s maritime domain and operate alongside crewed platforms such as the P-8A Poseidon, the statement reads.
Triton can fly above 15,000 meters for as long as 24 hours and cover up to 14 million square kilometers during a single mission, Northrop Grumman says. Its onboard sensors and data-sharing capabilities are designed to provide maritime situational awareness across the Indo-Pacific region.
Northrop Grumman has also embedded mechanics, avionics technicians, engineers, systems administrators, and network specialists with Royal Australian Air Force personnel and Australian industry partners to support the development of No. 9 Squadron, according to the statement.
The effort includes training personnel to operate, maintain, and sustain Triton from remote locations in Australia, the company says.
The United States and Australia also plan to share data and technical expertise to support joint military operations and maritime surveillance, the statement adds.
