MOSA-based common controller sought for Marine Corps unmanned systems
NewsSeptember 21, 2026
PATUXENT RIVER, Maryland. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) is seeking industry information on a portable Unmanned Common Controller (UCC) that would use a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) to operate multiple types of Marine Corps unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), according to a sources-sought notice posted on SAM.gov.
The envisioned controller would consolidate separate ground-control stations into a common device supporting cross-platform interoperability, multi-aircraft control, mission planning, payload control, data dissemination, and integration with higher-echelon command-and-control networks and Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) applications. NAVAIR is seeking MOSA-compliant approaches using open standards such as STANAG 4586, MAVLink, and NATO interoperability profiles, as well as application programming interfaces, software development kits, and plug-ins for third-party integration.
The Marine Corps is also interested in architectures that allow field replacement of communications and other hardware without original-equipment-manufacturer support and can scale to artificial intelligence and machine learning-enabled autonomy, future UAS, and cross-domain control. The notice is for market research only and does not constitute a request for proposals or contract award.
