Reconfigurable weapon turret demonstrated on autonomous USV by Moog, Voltaic Marine

EAST AURORA, New York. Moog and Voltaic Marine demonstrated the integration of Moog's Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform (RIwP) turret aboard Voltaic Marine's AEU39 uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) during the U.S. Navy's Coastal Trident Demo, Moog announced in a statement.
The demonstration included RIwP's detection and tracking functions aboard the autonomous vessel, marking the turret's use in a maritime application, the statement reads.
RIwP is designed as a configurable turret that can accommodate different weapons and sensors while retaining commonality with Moog's standard RIwP system, the company says. The configuration can support a 30 mm cannon and multiple missile effectors, according to the statement.
The AEU39 uses an electric-hybrid propulsion system with integrated solar panels and is designed for extended operations at sea, Moog says. The vessel includes modular payload bays and electrical power for integrating mission equipment.
The companies are positioning the combined system for missions including fleet protection and littoral defense, with the USV carrying sensors and multiple weapon options for detecting, tracking, and engaging aerial threats, the statement reads.
