General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) completed the first Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) High Frequency (HF) Command and Control (C2) demonstration for an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). According to officials, the HF C2 capability does not require a Satellite Communications (SATCOM) link and is capable of providing BLOS connectivity up to 8,000 miles, depending on transmit power and link geometry.

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA)-Aviation at Warner Robins has awarded a $306 million 10-year indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to Terma North America in support of the U.S. Air Force (USAF) to provide self-protection hardware, sustainment, and engineering services under the Enterprise Contract for the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC).

BAE Systems announced it has received a $4 million contract from the U.S. Navy to conduct a quick-turnaround demonstration of a new radio frequency countermeasure (RFCM) system for the P-8A Poseidon. The pod-mounted RFCM system is a high-power system that is designed to add a new self-protection capability to this next-generation U.S. Navy aircraft.

Final rules for Unmanned Aircraft (UA), commonly known as drones, have been announced by the The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Northrop Grumman Corporation announced it has completed the first flight for the Global Hawk Ground Station Modernization Program (GSMP) at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. earlier this month.
