The SOSA Update bimonthly E-newsletter from the editorial staff of militaryembedded.com covers the news, blogs, columns, feature articles, videos, podcasts, and more on the activities of the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) Consortium, via the Military Embedded Systems collaboration with The Open Group, who manages the consortium, and the SOSA Outreach Committee. While most leaders in the Department of Defense (DoD) understand the basic value of open architectures, they need to see metrics on already-realized cost and scheduled savings, said David Tremper, Director, Acquisition Integration and Interoperability, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense in his keynote address at the MOSA [Modular Open Systems Approach] Virtual Summit held February 22 and hosted by myself and Military Embedded Systems.

As 2023 marches on, we are seeing a growing trend within the aerospace and defense electronics industry toward technology standardization, in particular regarding power-delivery networks. The U.S. Army has long pursued a standardized infrastructure and architecture for ground-combat vehicle hardware and networking. While the VICTORY standard helped make some progress and created some excitement, the need to converge on a more focused solution set soon became apparent. The next step was CMOSS, which – in its effort to define the suite of standards for building the desired infrastructure and network – embraced the VICTORY, MORA, and OpenVPX standards.
