Sigma Labs awarded Phase II DARPA contract for 3D metal printing

SANTA FE, NM. Honeywell Aerospace has granted Sigma Labs a Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) Phase II award. Sigma Labs, a developer of advanced, in process, non-destructive quality inspection systems for metal-based additive manufacturing, completed Phase I of the contract earlier this year.

DARPA’s program goal is to develop an Integrated Computational Material Engineering (ICME) framework to more accurately predict the properties of metal components produced using additive manufacturing.

Through this award we will have additional opportunities to showcase our unique software and help develop a standardized, rapid-qualification approach to metal 3D printing, potentially leading to faster commercialization of our cutting-edge technology."

Work on Phase II of the contract is expected to begin in quarter four of 2015 and run through mid-2016, with a total award value of approximately half a million dollars.
