NEW YORK, NY. L3 Technologies has secured a potential six-year, $73.7 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to update, repair and overhaul submarine photonics masts used on U.S. Navy submarines.

The service branch will obligate $2.1 million in fiscal 2019 other procurement funds at the time of award, the Department of Defense said Monday.

Ninety-eight percent of work will occur in Northampton, Mass., and the remaining 2 percent will take place at other locations within the United States. The company is scheduled to complete work under the sole-source contract by June 2025.

Photonics masts operate similarly to a periscope without requiring a periscope tube. They are designed to help operators monitor situations around underwater vessels such as Virginia-class nuclear submarines.
