ARLINGTON, Va. Leonardo DRS has won a contract with the U.S. Army -- worth a reported $193 million -- to provide the Army with TROPHY active protection systems for its Abrams tanks to support immediate operational requirements.
Under the terms of the contract, Leonardo -- in concert with its longtime partner Rafael Advanced Defense Systems (Haifa, Israel) -- will provide the Army with TROPHY systems, countermeasures, and maintenance kits.
According to Leonardo DRS, TROPHY systems use radar to detect and classify an incoming threat on the battlefield, tracks the threat and computes intercept parameters, transmits the parameters to the crew, and launches countermeasures when necessary to neutralize the protected zone.
