U.S. Army chooses QinetiQ North America for small ground robot project

WALTHAM, Mass. QinetiQ North America (QNA) has garnered an initial contract to build a new small unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) for the U.S. Army, an initiative that marks one of the first UGV programs of record for the Army..

The seven-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract, valued up to $164.4 million, calls for an initial Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) phase worth approximately $20 million over one to two years, followed by a series of annual production releases.

The Common Robotic System-Individual (CRS(I)) robot is designed to fit in a backpack and is equipped with advanced sensors and mission modules for dismounted forces to enhance mission capabilities; it also offers users an open architecture to support a variety of payloads and missions to detect, identify, and counter hazards.
