REDONDO BEACH, Calif. The Critical Design Review (CDR) for the information assurance elements of the Low Cost Terminal (LCT) program has been completed. The team – Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) – can move forward to producing hardware and software for the information assurance element or end cryptographic unit.

By leveraging existing commercial technologies, LCT’s goal is to develop an affordable terminal designed to provide protected communications via the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellite system to mobile military forces.

LCT has been an industry-funded development to date as it takes advantage of Northrop Grumman’s and Lockheed Martin’s experience in protected military satellite communications and builds on TCS’s experience in deployable satellite communication systems.

Testing for the terminal with an AEHF satellite is planned for the end of 2015 and the team hopes to have certification completed in 2016.
