Rad-hard ultra low dropout linear regulator released by Intersil at NSRECNews

SAN FRANCISCO. Engineers at Intersil Corp. in Milpitas, CA announced a new radiation-hardened (rad-hard) ultra low dropout linear regulator -- the ISL75052SEH -- at the Nuclear Space and Radiation Effects Conference (NSREC) in San Francisco this week. The device is single output LDO that is specified for an output current as high as 1.5A.
The ISL75052, targeted at aerospace and satellite applications, is is single event transient (SET) immune and high/low dose rate immune via wafer-by-wafer acceptance testing as high as 100krad (Si) and 50krad (Si), respectively. It operates from an input voltage range of 4.0V to 13.2V (14.7V absolute maximum in-beam) and provides output voltages of 0.6V to 12.7V. The output voltage can be adjusted based on an external resistor divider setting. The typical dropout voltage performance is 225mV at 1.5A.
The ultra low dropout performance over temperature and radiation enables users to reduce the voltage between the input and out voltage rails, saving on power. Its wide input voltage range of 4V to 13.2V enables designers to operate the part over a wide input voltage range, such as 12V, 5V, or any in-between voltages. An output voltage accuracy of +/- 2 percent over radiation and over military temperature range enhances point-of-load (POL) input accuracy tolerance over varying AC/DC application conditions. The product's 160uA shutdown current, maximum, lengthens battery life when used in a redundant configuration. A PowerGood output pin also is available for easy start-up configuration.
The ISL75052 has SET mitigation with no added filters or diodes for LET of 86MeVcm2/mg, which reduces board space and system cost.
