F-35 Lightning II contract: Switzerland intends to purchase 36 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin

BETHESDA, Md. Lockheed Martin announced that Switzerland's Federal Council signed a contract to buy 36 F-35A advanced fighter jets, at a cost of $5.5 billion.
The deal means that Switzerland is the 15th nation to enter the F-35 fold. Under the terms of the contract, the Swiss air force will receive F-35A aircraft, a sustainment solution tailored to Switzerland's requirements for autonomy, and a training program.
The announcement of the deal from Lockheed Martin reveals that Swiss industry will have the opportunity to participate in research and development, production, and sustainment opportunities that will extend their capabilities into the future.
As of this date, the F-35 operates from 21 bases worldwide, with nine countries operating F-35s on their home turf.
