PROVIDENCE, R.I. Officials at Textron AirLand, LLC, a joint venture of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) and AirLand Enterprises, LLC, debuted the Scorpion prototype, an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR)/strike aircraft platform. The Scorpion is in test phase, with its first flight set to happen before the end of this year.

The aircraft was designed to accommodate the restrained budget environment of the U.S. Department of Defense. Its design is matched to missions such as irregular warfare, maritime surveillance, patrol, emergency relief, air defense operations, and counter-narcotics. It uses globally-available commercial components to manage life cycle challenges, which will reduce total cost of ownership.
