WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. Northrop Grumman engineers released a new, dual-use tactical grade inertial measurement unit (IMU), which is specially designed for the commercial market.

The compact, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) LN-200C is a six-degrees-of-freedom IMU that may be used for a range of applications, such as instrument stabilization, motion compensation and navigation in commercial, aerospace, and industrial applications. the LN-200C IMU, based on fiber-optic gyro (FOG) technology, has a hermetic seal and lack of moving parts help to enable low noise and extended operational life.

Export of the commercial-off-the-shelf LN-200C will be administered through the Department of Commerce (DoC) under its Export Administration Regulations (EAR) per a commodity jurisdiction ruling from the U.S. Department of State (DoS).

The new unit evolved from Northrop Grumman's LN-200 FOG IMU and has the same electro-mechanical interface and form factor as the prior model. The LN-200C can serve as a drop-in replacement for applications that do not require the LN-200's full operational range and that can benefit from the expedited licensing and of the LN-200C.
