Defense Sciences Office (DSO) announces office-wide Proposers Day for late June
NewsMay 31, 2016
ARLINGTON, Virginia. DARPA officials announced that the agency's Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is sponsoring a two-day Proposers Day, June 22-23, to give information to potential proposers on the objectives of a DSO Office-wide Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) anticipated to be published soon.
The DSO Office-wide BAA will invite proposers to submit innovative basic or applied research concepts in one or more of the following technical areas:
- Mathematics, Modeling, and Design: Development and implementation of advanced mathematics and modeling tools for applications of interest to U.S. national security.
- Physical Systems: Leading-edge experimental and/or theoretical research that advances understanding and capabilities for U.S. national security in the physical sciences.
- Human-Machine Systems: Research to analyze, understand, and optimize human-machine/human-technology systems and system dynamics across a variety of application areas important for U.S. national security (e.g., materials, part and platform manufacturing, defense systems, human innovation systems and collaborative military systems).
- Social Systems: New methods, tools and approaches to explore and better understand human social systems and dynamics in a national security context.
The Proposers Day will feature breakout sessions throughout each day focused on human-machine cooperation and collaboration; frontiers of social science; opportunities in quantum science; learning, modeling, and modulating complex dynamic systems; frontiers in optics; understanding and accelerating technological revolution; and complexity in natural systems.
Several “nuts and bolts” breakout sessions will cover the basics of working with DARPA and DSO (DARPA 101 and DARPA 102), explaining how DARPA develops programs and works with universities. The Proposers Day also looks to encourage networking among attendees and will feature a number of DSO displays describing existing research and technology. Each day will be identical, so attendees may participate in one or both days if they desire to attend sessions the second day that they missed the first.
Attendees who submitted abstracts in response to a Request for Information for Potential Opportunity to Discuss New DSO Research Initiatives and who were selected for an individual sidebar meeting will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a DSO program manager. Those selected for sidebars have been individually notified and will be scheduled to meet in person at the event or telephonically if attending by webinar.
The DSO Proposers Day event will be held at the DARPA Conference Center located at 675 North Randolph Street, Arlington, VA 22203 on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, and Thursday, June 23, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Registration opens Monday, May 23, at 12:00 noon EDT and closes on the below date/time or when capacity is reached, whichever comes first. Attendees may register to attend in person or via webinar.
Physical attendance registration deadline: Friday, June 3, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. EDT
Webcast attendance registration deadline: Monday, June 13, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. EDT
