ARLINGTON, Va. Leonardo DRS --through its Canadian subsidiary, DRS Technologies Canada (Kanata, Ontario) -- has won a contract from the U.S. Navy to provide four additional Integrated Voice Communications Systems (IVCS) for the Navy's Aegis cruisers and destroyers. The award is part of the Navy?s larger IVCS contract.

The award is part of the Navy’s larger integrated voice communication system (IVCS) contract. The IVCS, also known as the Shipboard Integrated Communications System, or SHINCOM, is up-to-date shipboard communications switch technology that enables reliable red/black (sensitive/classified) secure tactical communications for Navy operators.

The computer-controlled, programmable telephone system connects to a ship’s announcing system, shore telephone lines, radio communications, and some sound-powered telephone circuits used in battle.

DRS Technologies Canada expects to deliver the systems in September 2018.
