MCLEAN, VA. Northrop Grumman Corp. engineers performed the preliminary design review and software requirements and architecture review for the Polar System (EPS) Control and Planning Segment (CAPS). The system enables space-enabled, secure communications capabilities for polar users in support of national objectives. EPS CAPS provides telemetry and control, cryptographic planning and mission planning for the EPS payload.

The design reviews concentrated on making sure that all CAPS requirements have been allocated. It also covered plans for the software architecture development to include segment and element designs, plans for verification and validation, engineering analysis, and program risk updates.

Northrop Grumman won the EPS CAPS contract late last year. The base contract is set for 18 months. Primary work will be completed in Redondo Beach, CA, with additional CAPS work performed in Orlando, FL, and Needham and Marlborough, MA.
