Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) engineers completed the initial phase of the Agency?s Tactical Undersea Network Architecture (TUNA) program, where they developed concepts and technologies that focus on restoring connectivity for U.S. Forces when tactical networks are taken offline. Engineers will now enter the next phase, which aims to demonstrate a prototype of the system at sea.

Vanilla Aircraft -- a joint business effort backed by DARPA [Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency] and NAVAIR [U.S. Naval Air System Command] -- announced that its VA001 unmanned aircraft system (UAS) recently completed a nonstop, unrefueled, 56-hour flight. The flight was submitted for a world duration record for combustion-powered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the 50- to 500-kg subclass; a representative from the National Aeronautic Association was present to witness and verify the record.

To help combat small-unit combat forces operating in urban environments, DARPA officials launched the OFFensive Swarm-Enabled Tactics (OFFSET) program, which seeks to develop and demonstrate 100 plus operationally relevant swarm tactics that could be used by groups of unmanned air and/or ground systems numbering more than 100 robots.
