Engineers at Aurora Flight Sciences demonstrated automated flight capabilities under the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency?s (DARPA) Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System (ALIAS) program. During the demonstration, engineers flew a Cessna Caravan through basic maneuvers under the supervision of a pilot.

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) officials announced it's Aerial Dragnet program, which aims to seek innovative technologies to provide persistent, wide-area surveillance of all unmanned aerial systems (UAS) - including small UAS - operating below 1,000 feet in a large city. The focus on the program is to protect military troops operating in an urban setting, the program has the potential to find civilian application to help protect U.S. metropolitan areas from UAS-enabled terrorist threats.
