CHANTILLY, Va. Defense/national-security company VTG has been chosen by the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division, to outfit additional ships in the U.S. fleet with an innovative laser designed to counter threats from unmanned aerial systems (UASs).

Under the terms of the contract, VTG will equip five U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyers with the AN/SEQ-4 Optical Dazzler Interdictor, Navy (ODIN), a directed-energy weapon used to counter adversarial UAS-mounted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

According to the award announcement, the laser for the optical dazzling of adversaries’ long-range and very-long-range surveillance systems is being developed and built at the NSWC Dahlgren Division.
