LOS ANGELES – September 9, 2020 –MilSource announced today the availability of Techaya’s MILTECH 9116rugged 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch/router. Addressing the cost and roll-out constraints of fiber optics in mobile military networks requiring 10 GbE connections, the compact MILTECH 9116 provides a unique design that supports 12 x 10 GbE copper ports bound in three connectors and 4 x 10 GbE fiber ports through two rugged, MIL-DTL 83526/20 & /21 TacBeam connectors.

Applications such as video, LiDAR and sensors have created a demand for data speeds that have exceeded the traditional 1 gigabit network standard capability. 10 Gb Etherent network infrastructure addresses these new speed requirements by enabling multiple gigabit ports into a single 10GbE connection in a non-e blocking architecture. It is an ideal solution to overcome traditional bandwidth limitations. While shorter-distance connections of devices, such as cameras, servers and other hardware can get maximum speeds out of copper connections, longer-distance runs will require fiber-optic connections to deliver 10 GbE speeds, end-to-end.

“To ease those cost and implementation burdens, the MILTECH 9116 delivers a unique combination of both 10 GbE copper ports for shorter-distanced connections and 10 GbE fiber ports via tactical expanded beam connectors,” said Ronen Isaac, general manager of MilSource. “Traditional fiber-based 10 GbE tends to be fragile and requires a lot of resources for in-field repairs. TacBeam connectors protect the fragile fibers and allow field personnel to wash and clean the connectors themselves, providing simpler maintenance and greater MTBF figures than traditional fiber connectors.”

The MILTECH 9116 supports Layer 2 and 3 network capabilities including VLANS, QoS, multicast routing (PIM) and dynamic routing (OSPF). Compact in size, it measures 16.8” x 8” x 2.8” and weighs just 8.8 lbs. Standard power input is 28Vdc (18-32V), 87W maximum and it is designed to meet MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704, IP67 standards.
