APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) production Taiwan F-16s set to begin

BALTIMORE. Northrop Grumman engineers are beginning work on the APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) has after receiving its first production order from prime Lockheed Martin.

SABR is a multifunction, active electronically scanned array (AESA) fire control radar that enables fifth-generation air-to-air and air-to-ground radar capability on the F-16. It will provide F-16 pilots with enhanced targeting, situational awareness, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will deliver 142 radars to Lockheed Martin for the Taiwan Air Force F-16 upgrade program. The first production system is scheduled to be delivered to Lockheed Martin next year.
