Army awards $945 million contract for advanced Patriot missiles

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas. Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control business unit recently secured a $945 million modification contract from U.S. Army Contracting Command to exercise the production option of fiscal 2018 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missiles.
The PAC-3 missile system is a long-range air defense and medium- to high-altitude guided missile system built to counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and advanced aircraft. The PC 3’s radar set performs such functions as airspace surveillance, target detection, identification, classification, tracking, missile guidance, and engagement support. According to materials from Lockheed Martin, the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor uses a two-pulse solid rocket motor that boosts altitude, range, and defensive capabilities by up to four times over the previous Patriot missile.
In addition to the U.S. military, Lockheed Martin expects that several U.S.-allied nations will also purchase the latest variant of the Patriot system.
Work under the terms of the contract will be performed in Grand Prairie and Lufkin, Texas, Chelmsford, Massachusetts; Camden, Arizona; Ocala, Florida; Huntsville, Alabama; and Huntington Beach, California.
