COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. ERAPSCO -- a joint venture of Sparton and Ultra Electronics -- has won a contract worth a potential $1 billion to build and deliver 932,500 sonobuoys for the U.S. Navy.

The sonobuoys that ERAPSCO will deliver are air-launched expendable, electromechanical antisubmarine warfare acoustic sensors that relay underwater sounds associated with potentially hostile

ships and submarines.

Work under the contract will be performed in De Leon Spring, Florida and Columbia City, Indiana; it is expected to wrap up in September 2025. Funds will be obligated on individual orders as they are issued, say Navy officials.
