CHATSWORTH, CA. Aitech Defense Systems has released the C873, a rugged, 3U OpenVPX (VITA 65) Single-Board Computer (SBC) based on the 4th generation Intel Core i7 quad-core processor. The 2.4 GHz operation of the Intel Haswell processors provides the C873 with up to 20 percent more computing performance than previous SBCs for improved graphics and data processing.

The 4th generation Core i7 processors on C873 modules include Intel Turbo Boost Technology, an integrated HD Graphics 4600 core, and RGBHV and HDMI/DVI outputs, making the C873 well-suited for video processing applications. Standard I/O interfaces on the C873 include four Gigabit Ethernet ports, five USB ports, two SATA ports, two serial I/O interfaces, eight general-purpose discrete I/O lines, and a PMC/XMC expansion slot. A Lynx Point QM87 I/O Platform Controller Hub (PCH) that supports high-speed and legacy interfaces is also coupled with the C873.

The C873 supports seven OpenVPX slot profiles, making it suitable for multiple applications and environments. It is capable of communicating with up to eight PCIe OpenVPX modules without a backplane switch, and can accommodate more modules if a switch is used.

C873 modules are equipped with 64 GB SATA flash and 16 GB DDRL3 SDRAM with ECC protection, as well as two 16 MB flash BIOS that allow the system to boot even in the event of device failure. An IPMI controller provides system-level health and status of C873 modules, while three onboard temperature sensors and an Elapsed Time Record (ETR) assist in board monitoring as well. Standard and avionics watchdog timers and real-time clocks are also available.
