HUNTSVILLE, Ala. QWK Integrated Solutions, a joint venture of defense contractor Vencore and engineering and IT provider Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, has won the High Energy Laser Technical Vehicle Demonstrator (HEL TVD) task order on the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT), Design, Development, Demonstration and Integration (D3I) program Domain 1 contract.

The HEL TVD program is aimed at providing the warfighter a cost-effective, high-energy laser weapon system to protect forces from rockets, artillery, and mortar fire at fixed and semi-fixed locations. Under the HEL TVD task order, QWK will be responsible for program management and a variety of systems engineering, integration, and platform-testing activities.

The recent award is for the base (concept refinement) period of the task order, with the expectation that USASMDC will exercise the subsequent three options at a later date, all of which will result in a prototype HEL weapon system.
