Desert Hawk 3 hand-launched UAS contract won by Lockheed Martin

LONDON. Lockheed Martin won a contract with the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense to support the Desert Hawk 3 program and help establish the small unmanned aerial system (UAS) as a core defense capability.
Lockheed Martin made the announcement during the Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) show earlier this month.
Desert Hawk 3 has flown more than 30,000 hours, supporting missions with enhanced situational awareness, security and counter-improvised explosive device (IED) operations, threat detection, route reconnaissance and battle damage assessment.
The battery-powered UAS is hand-launched system and weighs only 8 pounds. It can fly for as long as 90 minutes with a 2-pound payload. The Desert Hawk 3 also has a digital data link.
Lockheed Martin engineers recently upgraded the UAS to the Desert Hawk 3.1 configuration by enabling updated sensor payloads, simplified launch, deep stall landing, all-environment capability, longer endurance, and operation using the company's mobile ground control system. Desert Hawk 3.1 is a modification kit to a Desert Hawk 3 configuration.
