Milestone C completed for Small Diameter Bomb II

WASHINGTON. The U.S. Air Force and Raytheon completed the Milestone C decision briefing for the Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II). This will allow the program to proceed to the low rate initial production phase.
SDB II uses Raytheon’s tri-mode seeker operating in the following modes: millimeter-wave radar, uncooled imaging infrared, and semi-active laser. It is an all-weather solution that provides precision in limited visibility scenarios.
With a dynamic warhead that can destroy soft and hard targets, SDB II can strike targets from range of 40 nautical miles or more. Also, by using a secure datalink, the bomb can change targets in-flight.
SDB II already passed a functional configuration audit, production readiness review, and system verification review
"Achieving Milestone C marks the hard work of the U.S. government and Raytheon teams to verify that we meet or exceed the requirements necessary for a Lot 1 production decision," says Jim Sweetman, SDB II program director for Raytheon Missile Systems.
