AUSA 2019--WASHINGTON. Elbit Systems of America -- a wholly-owned subsidiary of Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems Ltd. -- will showcase its Future Fighting Vehicle demonstrator at the AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition this week.

Elbit Systems officials say that the new armored fighting vehicle (AFV) introduces a number of changes in the operational capability of combat vehicles, as seen by the addition of autonomous capabilities and artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate decision-making and facilitate target engagement.  Using a helmet-mounted display, a crew of two can operate the under a closed hatch; the company intends the AFV to be used as an independent high firepower strike cell, as a networked station for multispectral sensing and information fusion, and a base platform for operating additional unmanned systems.

The new AFV, say company officials, is able to perform key combat tasks -- including off-road driving, rapid target acquisition, and fast high-precision fire missions -- and is networked so that it can carry out missions ordered by headquarters and transmit data to other forces. It is also able to operate other unmanned platforms in order to garner intelligence.
