Army orders HF tactical radio antennas from Harris - News

TAMPA, Florida. U.S. Army officials awarded Harris Corp. in Rochester, N.Y., a five-year, $12 million IDIQ contract to provide high-frequency (HF) tactical radio antennas. Harris officials made the announcement today during MILCOM 2015 in Tampa, Florida.

Potential full-year CR could impact 400 Army programs, say Army officials - Blog

WASHINGTON. A potential year-long Continuing Resolution (CR) caused by Congress being unable to pass a 2016 budget by December could result and would affect about 400 Army programs totaling about $6 billion, said Heidi Shyu, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology during a press conference at the AUSA Annual Meeting last week in Washington.

Budget cuts place restraints on DoD helicopter market - News

Analysts at Frost & Sullivan say that a reduction new U.S. military helicopter procurement programs the need for logistical support, upgrades, and the remanufacture of current platforms and subsystems will sustain market growth. They say they expect military helicopter funding to decrease from about $9.99 billion in 2015 to $6.89 billion in 2020, at a negative compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of five percent.

Every month the McHale Report will host an online roundtable with experts from the defense electronics industry ? from major prime contractors to defense component suppliers. Each roundtable will explore topics important to the military embedded electronics market. This month we discuss the fifth anniversary of the OpenVPX standard. Five years have passed since OpenVPX/VITA 65 was ratified as an ANSI standard and six years since the OpenVPX Industry Working Group was founded by Mercury Systems in 2009. Other companies such as GE Intelligent Platforms and Aitech were solicited to put together the consortia and help lead it. Later that year, the OpenVPX Technical Working Group was formed with participation opened up to any VITA member in good standing.

Real-time video streaming for Army helicopter cockpits designed by Rockwell Collins - News

WASHINGTON. Engineers at Rockwell Collins engineers designed a solution called Secure Real Time Video (SRTV) that enables warfighters to see real-time video from an unmanned aircraft directly in the cockpit of their military helicopter. The company recently delivered it to the Army to support its Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) operations. Rockwell Collins made the announcement this week at AUSA in Washington.

Anyone thinking the global defense market is slowing down would’ve been surprised if they attended the Defense and Security International (DSEI) show this month in London. Thousands of attendees saw everything from uniforms to tanks to radar signal processing board displayed at the stands. Highlights for me were an anti-drone system from three British companies, a cyber defense solution for submarine control systems (yes you can hack a submarine), a synthetic vision type of system for ground vehicles, and of course a plethora of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) devices for electronic warfare, radar, and unmanned systems applications.
