LONDON, United Kingdom. Collins Aerospace won a $19 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to equip the UK Royal Air Force’s H-47 Chinook helicopters with its Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS), the company announced in a statement.
The upgrade will make the UK Chinook fleet interoperable with U.S. Chinooks, integrating advanced digital cockpit displays and applications, the statement reads. The CAAS suite incorporates Collins Aerospace’s Flight2 Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), which consolidates multiple communications, navigation, and mission sensor subsystems through adaptable hardware and software, the company says.
Collins Aerospace will also perform data analysis and testing while supporting the UK Ministry of Defence in meeting UK Military Airworthiness Authority requirements, the statement adds.
Earlier this year, the UK government announced the purchase of 14 extended-range Chinooks to bolster its heavy-lift capability.
