The U.S. Navy has awarded The Boeing Co., Seattle, WA, a $14.6 million contract modification covering P-8A interim contractor support, including acquisition logistics support, in-service support, repairs, consumables replenishment, engine extraction and replacement, and on-ground aircraft.
Fifty-six percent of the work is slated to occur in Dallas, TX, while the remaining 44 percent transpires in Seattle, WA. All work is anticipated for completion this November.
The contracting activity is the Naval Air System Command in Patuxent River, MD.
The P-8A Poseidon is a Boeing 737-800ERX spinoff and combines an open architecture mission system, a pair of high-bypass CFM56 turbofan engines, and what Boeing describes as “a highly reliable airframe” to heighten Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capabilities.
Traveling at 490 knots and loaded with cruise missiles, mines, bombs, and torpedoes, P-8A has a range of 1,200 nautical miles.
