ALAMEDA, Calif. Northrop Grumman Corp. chose the Wind River VxWorks 653 Platform to use in its digitization avionics mission equipment package that will be integrated into the Army Black Hawk UH-60V helicopter.

VxWorks 653 is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) platform for safety-critical, integrated modular avionics (IMA) applications. Recently released updates to VxWorks 653 are support for multi-core silicon and partitioning for applications that provide multilevel RTCA DO-178C certification. The solutions also supports the Safety Base Profile of Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) 2.1 Technical Standard.

The use of VxWorks 653 will enable Northrop Grumman to align with the FACE Technical Standard, meet DO-178C certification standards, and consolidate our avionics technology onto multi-core hardware, enabling performance benefits as well as lower lifecycle costs," says Ike Song, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems vice president for Situational Awareness Systems.
