SAN JOSE, Calif. Embraer Defense and Security officials selected Ada software from AdaCore for an avionics upgrade. The GNAT Pro Ada development environment will be a primary tool set to help produce the Operation Flight Program for the Embraer AMX Jet Modernization program. Adacore made the announcement at the DesignWest show in San Jose, Calif., this week.

GNAT Pro will be used in conjunction with the VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) as the basis for developing this software system on the AMX Modernization program.

The AMX modernization, dubbed A-1 by the Brazilian air force (Força Aérea Brasileira – FAB), is expected to keep the fleet of 53 aircraft operational for another 20 years. The upgrade program covers the avionics, sensors, and weapons.

The Ada features that will be exploited by Embraer Uinclude strong typing, modularity mechanisms or packages, parallel processing (synchronous message passing, tasks, selected statements, and protected objects), run-time checking, generics, and exception handling.
