MELBOURNE, Fla. In a sub-contract, Harris Corp. has been selected to manufacture, test, and deliver acoustic sensors for the Light Weight Wide Aperture Array (LWWAA) system installed in 10 U.S. Navy Virginia-class submarines. The contract has a $15 million estimated value.
The sensors are housed in a conformal package that mounts to the submarine hull and as a whole the acoustic module assembly enables the tracking of ships and submarines as it provides the LWWAA system data to the submarine’s combat system.
Deliveries of the assembly to the prime contractor, Northrop Grumman, are expected to start in September 2015 through December 2019.
