OTTAWA, Ontario, IOWA. The SubNet Relay (SNR) from Rockwell Collins Canada is now a standard under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) standard -- ratified as NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4691 for Mobile Ad Hoc Relay Line-of-Sight IP Networking (MARLIN).

SubNet Relay enables military platforms to share a common frequency to automatically form a tactical internet, says Lee Obst, Rockwell Collins Canada director. SNR technology enables mobile, self-configuring and self-healing networking capability for platforms such as aircraft, ships, and land vehicles while using their current or new communications equipment. SNR, developed in 2000, is being deployed by various navies.
