U.S. Navy grants General Dynamics Electric Boat contract modification for nuclear submarines

GROTON, Conn. General Dynamics’ Electric Boat subsidiary has been awarded an $18.9 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy. The updated contract will be to perform reactor-plant planning yard services for nuclear submarines and support-yard services for moored training ships.

The contract was initially awarded in November 2011, and has a potential value of $121.2 million through 2016.

Electric Boat’s engineering and design organization includes more than 4,400 employees who work on all types of the submarine life cycle, from concept and design through construction, maintenance, modernization, to inactivation and disposal.

The majority of the work for this modification will be completed in Groton, Connecticut, with the remainder taking place in Charleston, South Carolina, where the moored training ships are housed.
