DENVER, Colo. Hughes Network Systems (an EchoStar Corp. subsidiary) won a $6.5 million contract to deploy a 5G open radio access network (ORAN) prototype at U.S. Army post Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas that will feature a RAN intelligent ccontroller (RIC) aimed at enabling the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to test RIC-based software applications for military networks.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the U.S. Space Force (USSF) are starting to implement the government’s Digital Modernization Strategy [published in 2019], including enhanced resilient architectures, as it applies to DoD satellite communications (SATCOM). This SATCOM modernization, including enterprise management and control, will enable access to core enterprise capabilities and increase the flexibility, agility, and resiliency of DoD SATCOM.

GERMANTOWN, Md. Hughes Network Systems (an EchoStar company) announced that it won a production contract from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) to produce a key component of the next-generation satellite communications (SATCOM) system for the MQ-1C Gray Eagle 25M uncrewed aircraft system (UAS).

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. Networking and communications company EchoStar and its subsidiary Hughes announced that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) FutureG Office has extended its contract for the continued deployment of standalone 5G networks at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) in Hawaii and at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) in Washington.

The software serves as a virtualized SD-WAN router, enabling network interoperability across carriers and vendors, and the company says it meets U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security criteria.
