GERMANTOWN, Md. Hughes Network Systems (an EchoStar company) announced that it won a production contract from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) to produce a key component of the next-generation satellite communications (SATCOM) system for the MQ-1C Gray Eagle 25M uncrewed aircraft system (UAS).

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. Networking and communications company EchoStar and its subsidiary Hughes announced that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) FutureG Office has extended its contract for the continued deployment of standalone 5G networks at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) in Hawaii and at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) in Washington.

Hughes Network Systems (an EchoStar company) announced that it won a contract with SES Space & Defense to provide a flexible, software-defined, multi-orbit, auto-PACE [primary, alternate, contingency and emergency] solution and associated modems in support of SES Space & Defense's and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Defense Experimentation Using Commercial Space Internet (DEUCSI) program.

GERMANTOWN, Maryland. Hughes Network Systems has won a five-year contract from the U.S. Space Force to provide Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services, the company announced in a statement.

GERMANTOWN, Maryland. Hughes Network Systems has announced the availability of its Smart Network Edge software for defense network operations, according to a company statement. The software serves as a virtualized SD-WAN router, enabling network interoperability across carriers and vendors, and the company says it meets U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security criteria.

As devices get smarter and generate more data, military users must find secure, high-data-rate methods to access all of this information, no matter their tactical location. New 5G networks will support quick and secure access to this data, bringing it even closer to the tactical edge by leveraging the agility of software-enabled techniques. Military planners need to consider how to provide this same 5G speed, flexibility, and uninterrupted data access to all users, no matter the location.

Walking the floors and attending the sessions at the Satellite 2022 show I found that the buzz within the military satellite industry continues to be the deep need for greater resilience in the Department of Defense (DoD) communications architecture.
