CHANTILLY, Va. Engineering-research concern Vencore Labs announced that the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) has awarded it a prime contract to provide research and development services in support of the DARPA Dispersed Computing (DCOMP) program.

Under the terms of the contract -- a cost-plus-fixed-fee arrangement with a value of $10.3 million -- Vencore is tasked with providing DARPA with a solution that leverages programmable network elements that collect in-path network data for analytics and uses these analytics with programmable protocol logic to enhance network performance.

DARPA’s DCOMP program is focused on remediating the cost and latency issues of data computation in rugged operational environments where network connectivity and power are limited. The program seeks to leverage dispersed computing systems to create software instantiations of protocol stacks and algorithms in order to improve performance of networks and applications.

Work on the Vencore Labs/DARPA project is set to take place in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, through 2021.
