U.S. Army grants Elbit $102 million contract for mortar fire control systems - News

FORT WORTH, Tx. Elbit Systems of America, a subsidiary of Israel's Elbit Systems, has won a U.S. Army contract to provide field mortar fire control systems. If fully utlilized, the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract could extend to a five-year period and have a maximum value of $102 million.

Raytheon to develop automated tool for wargame scenarios - News

DULLES, Va. Raytheon officials received a contract from the U.S. Missile Defense Agency to develop an automated tool that assesses the effectiveness of using missiles and interceptors (kinetic) and cyber and electronic warfare (non-kinetic) weapons in wargames. The system automatically teaches participants which weapons to use in every possible scenario, ultimately better preparing warfighters to succeed.

Clemson team partners with DTRA to develop nuclear-activity sensor - News

CLEMSON, S.C. Research targeted at building a biosensor that would help the military detect signs of nuclear activities -- including indications of weapons development -- has been approved, to be conducted under the leadership of a former naval officer who is now a Clemson University faculty member. Nicole Martinez, an assistant professor in the Clemson environmental engineering and earth sciences department, is the lead investigator on the $866,884 project; the research will last three years and could be eligible for a two-year extension, boosting the total to about $1.5 million.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The U.S. Navy has named Naval Station Mayport (Jacksonville, Florida) as the forward operating base (FOB) for its fleet of MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft systems (UASs). As the east coast FOB, Mayport will act as the launch and recovery site for four forward-based MQ-4C Triton UAS and will be the consolidated maintenance hub for up to four additional aircraft.

IARPA launches crowdsourcing research effort - News

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, has announced that it is embarking on a multiyear research effort to develop and test large-scale, structured collaboration methods to improve reasoning. If the project is successful, the Crowdsourcing Evidence, Argumentation, Thinking and Evaluation (known as "CREATE") program will improve analysts? and decisionmakers? understanding of the evidence and assumptions that support or conflict with their conclusions.
