Build your own system? Wait - it's already done

Rather than face the rigors of component selection, design, test, and qualification when building a system from the ground up, there's another way: GE Intelligent Platforms' CRS-C2P-3CC1 and CRS-C3P-3CB1 off-the-shelf rugged systems are application-ready.

Rather than face the rigors of component selection, design, test, and qualification when building a system from the ground up, there’s another way: GE Intelligent Platforms’ CRS-C2P-3CC1 and CRS-C3P-3CB1 off-the-shelf rugged systems are application-ready, prevalidated, 2-and 3-slot CompactPCI systems tucked inside a 3U chassis. They are vended in either baseplate-cooled or convection-cooled style.

Residing in the box is a Freescale MPC7448 processor speeding along at 1.4 GHz. And don’t forget the memory: 256 MB flash and 512 MB RAM. The fast-to-deployment systems – highly suitable for unmanned/manned ground vehicles, UAVS, and launch vehicles – include the VxWorks RTOS. A plethora of I/O is provided, too, including the likes of: discrete I/O, MIL-STD-1553, USB, serial, Ethernet, and ARINC 429. Rugged-deployment qualified, the CRS-C2P-3CC1 weighs 11 pounds and measures 3.96" x 7.15" x 9.03" (sans connectors), while the CRS-C3P-3CB1 tips the scale at 9 lbs and measures 5.60" x 4.25" x 8.76" (again, sans the connectors). Sounds like a good deal to us.
