Latvia to get Sentinel radars from ThalesRaytheonSystems

FULLERTON, California. Latvian armed forces officials are procuring four improved Sentinel AN/MPQ-64 F1 air defense radars from ThalesRaytheonSystems. The Sentinel systems will complement Latvia's existing defense network by detecting, identifying, and tracking airborne threats such as cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

Sentinel is a three-dimensional, phased-array radar system operating in the X-band frequency range. It can be deployed for missions such as air surveillance, air defense and missile systems coordination, and homeland defense, as well as infrastructure and asset protection. The radar also acts as the primary sensing component for alerting and cueing of targets for National Advanced Surface to Air Missile Systems (NASAMS).
