WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. In an agreement between Northrop Grumman Corp. and Raytheon, Northrop Grumman will supply its LN-200 Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to Raytheon for its optical targeting systems.
The agreement extends to 2018 with Raytheon’s Space and Airborne Systems business. With a purchase order placed in December and an estimated value of $2 million, the LN-200 IMU will enable camera stabilization on Raytheon’s targeting systems that conduct long-range surveillance and target acquisitions in several guided munitions.
The LN-200 IMU has high bandwidth and data rate capability, both are required to attain stabilized images, says Bob Mehltretter, vice president, Navigation and Positioning Systems, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems.
Northrop Grumman’s LN-200 IMU can also be used as backup navigation. The LN-200 has no moving parts and is sealed airtight. The IMU measures velocity and angle changes with a package that includes three fiber-optic gyros and three silicon micro-electromechanical system accelerometers.
