Surface mount VN-300 GPS/INS device joins industrial line of inertial sensors

DALLAS. Officials at VectorNav Technologies released a surface mount version of their VN-300 Dual Antenna GPS-aided Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS). The VN-300 surface mount device (SMD) joins the industrial line of inertial sensors: the VN-100 IMU/AHRS and VN-200 GPS/INS surface mount and rugged modules. The modules will be on display at AUVSI in Atlanta, GA from May 5-7, 2015.

The VN-300 SMD includes GPS-compassing and inertial navigation capabilities. It is a miniature MEMS-based inertial navigation module that provides position, velocity, and attitude data in static and dynamic operating conditions. Its SMD package combines 3-axis accelerometers, 3-axis magnetometers, a barometric pressure sensor, two GNSS receivers, and a low-power microprocessor. The VN-300 interconnects the position and velocity measurements from the GNSS receivers with measurements from the onboard inertial sensors to provide position, velocity, and attitude estimates when the vehicle is in motion.

VectorNav officials also announced the addition of GNSS ability to the VN-300 product line. The GNSS capability enables the VN-300 to include satellite measurements in the GLONASS constellation. VectorNav engineers also made a firmware update for the VN-300 that improves accuracy and time acquisition for the GPS-compass feature. It includes logic that allows the VN-300 to transition between magnetic heading mode to INS operation in dynamic conditions and GPS-compass in stationary conditions.
